Medical data from insurance claims or electronic health records provide a limited picture of a person’s health. Data on social determinants of health (SDOH), which are the non-medical factors that influence health outcomes, can enrich your understanding of member health, improve your model performance and findings, make your recommendations more equitable, and are easier to access than you might think.
In this talk, you will learn about SDOH and the impact of not considering them in ML applications in healthcare. You will also receive recommendations on free, publicly available data sources that you can integrate into your data warehouse to better understand and anticipate social/environmental factors impacting health outcomes.
