Dr. Hongfei Li is the Head of Analytics at Point72. She leads the analytics strategical directions and focuses on research and solution development using alternative data, build proprietary assets to support firm’s long/short decisions. These solutions and products heavily leverage big data analytics, statistics, machine learning techniques and deliver actionable insights. Prior to that, Dr. Li built a Data Science team at IBM creating a variety of analytics solutions in B2B and B2C areas. Before that, she worked as a research manager and Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson, holding more than 30 US patents and top conference and journal publications.

Alternative data have become valuable tools for investment management firms seeking alpha. Typical data types in alternative data are credit card transactions, emails, geo location metrics, sentiment data, etc. However, the exploration of this new space is in its early adoption stage now and many firms currently only look into alternative data for potential value. The presentation will introduce alternative data, its applications in finance, interesting use cases, challenges, etc. We aim to bring a different perspective of data science applications across industries.
